Description
This flag is part of a project I came up with to explore what makes a national flag or symbol. I wanted to suggest what might occur if real nations wanted to design new flags from scratch, without using current or historical flags. It’s unlikely most nations would want to change their flags, but it’s fun to speculate on a “what if”?
The yellow on this flag represents the vast gravel desert that covers most of Oman, which has one of the hottest climates in the world. The blue represents the waters of the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman. Muscat, the capital, was once one of the principal trading ports in the region.
Notes
The idea of this project is to show all of the alternate flags on one map of Asia. The size of the map means it shows some nations in the Middle East, East Africa and Southern Europe which are not normally considered part of Asia.
